JOYA DE CEREN – HUMAN HERITAGE

Joya de Ceren, one of the most significant archaeological discoveries in Mesoamerica in several decades. Although the Maya World is replete with grand ceremonial centers erected by the elates of Classic and Post-Classic periods, Joya de Ceren is the best-Known example of an ancient farming community. Farmers constituted the majority of the population, raising crops to feed their families, the nobility and priest class, and providing a labor pool to be tapped for the construction of temples in ceremonial centers.

PYRAMIDS OF EL TAZUMAL

Within a small area around Chalchuapa, in eastern San Miguel, are five pre-Hispanic ceremonial centers: Tazumal, Las Victorias, Pampe, Casa Blanca and El Trapiche. The principal site is Tazumal, “place of many lakes” in Nahuatl. It features an ancient ball court and a 30-m-high pyramid inside which archaeologists discovered 24 Classic-period tombs and 320 ceramic vessels. The nearby palace was the burial ground for Tazumal’s ancient rulers.

RUTA DE LAS FLORES - TOWN TOUR

We usually visit the following five colonial towns along the Ilamatepec Mountain Range: Nahuizalco, Sacoatitan, Juayua, Apaneca and Ataco. CULTURAL TOUR – TOWN OF SUCHITOTO

Suchitoto This colonial town is located to the east of San Salvador . It offers the tourist a window to the past. Here you can spend the night in the local hostelries and to enjoy a good dinner while you contemplate the impressive landscape. This beautiful city offers the visitor the opportunity to know part of the culture of El Salvador through its permanent festival of art and culture that is carried out since 1991. Its nahuat name means, Place of Bird and flower, Suchitoto, a colonial town is considered, with a great architectural beauty and cultural wealth.

THE HACIENDA’S SMALL MUSEUM-HOUSE

Settled in an interior space of the house, that was used as family cemetery. Sacred pieces and some human remains were found and in one of the corners a “pileta” (sink) that possibly kept water for the summer. All of these pieces are exhibited in the museum; in a journey by the history of La Hacienda, old images pieces, sabers, obsidian, old furniture, stones of milling, archaeologies, old irons, cooking, molds of pylon sugar cane, and panela, milk pots, old doors, etc; as well as, the genealogical tree of the family that has possessed this country property through the years.
